Demolition Man

And now, a brief return to the original function of this web site!
TV nook

The TV nook never housed a television and wasn’t much of a nook, so it was time to change things up a bit…

Demolition

Starting at 8:00 this morning, the back bedroom began a metamorphosis, courtesy of  a few hammers, some drywall saws, and, well, whatever that thing above is!

Nook

After we opened up the space around the ersatz cabinet space, we found a crumpled up water bottle from the original build and a baby sock Josh pushed through the outlet box into the space behind!

The cabinet/nook after being ripped out and taken outside. Hasta luego!

Rok

We moved the wiring from its original spot in the bottom right up into the center of the wall, then junctioned a power outlet to the left hand side. Isn’t construction awesome?

The drywall before taping and mudding. Soon you’ll never know the nook was there!

Think that’s it? Think again! The room was then primed for a new paint color (with a little help from Adam Carolla on the bed boombox!).

The plan is to paint what we can and mud/tape up the drywall tomorrow. Totally new room for Josh and Megan to come home to!

Introducing the Office

Note: Another “lost” post recovered. This author went into great detail documenting the history of the front bedroom (it was once the office of the couple we bought the house from, etc.), but he now understands the target audience of this blog will remember these engaging and entertaining stories, and they do not bear repeating.

The front bedroom, now the office, has been primed, painted, and a new day bed and the book cases have been installed. It’s coming along; check out the pictures below.

The Reading Room

Inside the room

A big update!

The ovens have been installed! It’s such a teaser…we don’t have a working kitchen sink so it’s still hard to really cook…but these babies are awesome!

Oh yeah…and the kitchen floors have been installed! We used a product call Marmoleum. What? yes- Marmoleum! It’s basically what linoleum was in the early 1900’s- just like what would have been in the house! The color is called “Van Gogh.” The pics don’t do it justice…come over and visit!

Kitchen lights…

The french doors are finally in our bedroom! Handle installation pending- this is WAY better than the plywood that has been covering the doorway since we moved into the room!

A Touch of Privacy

A lot can happen in a few hours. At noontime the kitchen and the adjoining bedroom were a skeleton of wood studs and rafter beams. Now the sun is setting and the walls are looking really good.

2nd Bedroom

Remember when there used to be a wonky, 3″-off-plumb door on the left wall? Now we’re looking through the new door frame. This will give us a more full-sized kitchen and really offset the two bedrooms at the back of the house, off the hallway.

Here’s what the wall looks like on the other side:

Lots of privacy for guests and friends that want to stay at our house during the blitzkrieg of construction going on right now! Fight on!
